3,250mm Calender, SandyHill, soft nip
This calendar is of the tw roll type using a 28" fixed driven roll in the upper position and an 18" diameter non-driven variable crown roll in the lower position. Both rolls have chilled iron faces.
TIhe top roll is designed for water circulation for temperature control and is provided with a Johnson rotary joint on the tending side. Tlhe roll is carried in anti-friction bearings with housings mounted on the calender main frames.
The bottom roll can be either a "Swimming" roll or a "Semi-Profil” roll mounted on lever arms provided with hydraulic cylinders for nip loading.
The main frames are of carbon steel and are designed to accept frame extensions for an additional two rolls.
Each calendar roll is provided with a Lodding spring loaded oscillating doctor.
A hydraulic power unit is provided with two pumps (one is a stand-by), filters, cooler, and 90 U.S. gallon reservoir. This unit provides pressure for the nip load cylinders and the variable cram roll. It also provides lubrication to the top roll bearings.
The main operator console provides all controls for operating the calendar including:
- Nip load
- Variable cram roll
- Hydraulic Unit
- Calender Drive
- LNLTADD Unit
- Alarm Systen
The Johnson UNITADD system is used to control the temperature of the circulating water which in turn controls the temperature of the upper calendar roll.
