The Meirat Foundation is headed by the charming Senor Augusto Avilés and it is located in the picturesque little village of Lozoya in the bucolic Lozoya Valley near Madrid. – A lot of superaltives in one sentence, but not one of them used to excess!
The fundation is currently working hard to set up an international hand-made-paper Museum. The initial stage will be located in an appropriately old building in the little village (500 habitants) of Lozoya. The Meirat Foundation would like to enlist everyone’s assistance in making this a unique, world-class museum which will be run by real papermakers with the skill sets to make this something that will inspire both artisan paper makers and modern paper makers alike. But this is not to be a static museum. Our concept is a living museum where the visitors can not only esee the history of paper making but can gain a hands on experience in the magic art of making paper.
Accordingly as Phase 1 of the appeal we are asing the paper making industry to donate to the museum any seriously old paper making equipment that might be lying unloved in forgotten corners of your establishment.
Phase 2 will be to develope an amatuer papermakers kit. The equivalent of home brewing but with this kit the owner ends up with production that can be given to friends or perhaps even be the basis for an individual artisan business. And at all times the owners can refer back to the Museum for advice.
Phase 3 will be to develop the inventive institute for handmade paper which knowledge will then be applicable to speciality papers.
In return for the donations the Meirate Foundation will acknoledge the kind sponsorship at the Museum on a special wall of honour in the foyer, in its literature and on its website. Sponsorship will be at three different levels.
- Foundation Sponsor: with an honoury non-executive seat on the board of the museum as a founding member, or a major financial contributor to the museum (€10,000 and above)
- Curator Sponsor: as a supplier of historical items
- Operations Sponsor: as a supplier of services
